BEEN / SEEN
Visual identity and exhibition
For 47 years, Austin Hansen produced more than 500,000 portraits of African American families, clergy, political leaders, entertainers, writers, and community members. The exhibition BEEN / SEEN places the work of Hansen in conversation with seven contemporary photographers. All works were first shown outdoors as part of the 2021 Photoville Festival. Thereafter, the exhibition traveled nearby to the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. Both exhibitions were curated by Novella Ford, coordinated by Shante’ Cozier.
